Australia’s Navy expansion not bringing ‘any real change’ in the near term

Liberal Party Defense and National Security Policy Chair Lincoln Parker has described the Albanese government’s announcement to majorly expand its Navy fleet as “a lot of spin”. The Labor government has pledged to spend more than $10 billion over the next decade to double Australia’s surface combatant fleet. “Because this could be an election year, they have decided to come out and try and look strong on defense,” Mr Parker told Sky News host Erin Molan. “However, we’re not seeing any real change in the Australian Navy in the near term. “Not for a decade will we apparently see extra warships.”
