Which Australian state has the strongest economy? | CommBank View

#CommBankView #australianeconomy #markets

Australia’s state economies are moving at different speeds, with Queensland leading the pack and South Australia among the biggest improvers. So what’s driving the divergence, and what could reshuffle the rankings from here?

Host Mandy Drury speaks with CommBank economist Harry Ottley about the relative strength of Queensland, the role of public and private investment, pressure on household spending, and why the data centre boom is providing an important offset for New South Wales and Victoria.

They also look at housing and labour market conditions across the states, the mixed signals coming from Tasmania, the role of population growth in Western Australia, and how interest rates could influence the outlook over the next year.

Then, CommBank economist and currency strategist Carol Kong joins the podcast for the week ahead, covering the Federal Reserve, Bank of England and Bank of Japan meetings, as well as what markets will be watching when RBA Governor Bullock appears before the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Economics.
