As prime minister, Kevin Rudd sat down at The Lodge with Chinese leader Xi Jinping for a long conversation in Mandarin.
Since then he has studied all of Xi’s speeches and writing. It’s given him a highly unusual insight into Xi’s view of the world.
Recently Rudd finished his term as Australian ambassador to the United States. He now leads US thinktank the Asia Society where he wants to use his position to influence Chinese and US strategy to avoid at all costs conflict in our region.
