Defence overhaul targets billion dollar blowouts
The Australian Federal Government has announced a major restructure of the Defence Department, creating a new Defence Delivery Agency to manage military equipment procurement and sustainment worth almost 40% of the defence budget. The reform aims to address chronic cost blowouts and delays in major defence projects, with a National Audit Office review finding 21 projects had budget increases totalling almost $41 billion while falling behind schedule.
